Hvar guide

Check our accommodation offer for Hvar

Town Hvar is the town which became a popular jet-set destination in recent years. Located in a beautiful bay at the western part of Hvar Island and hidden behind Pakleni Islands, Hvar Town is a favorite nautical destination and a safe port for numerous mega yachts. Hvar port is packed with expensive breathtaking yachts, a true attraction for many tourists walking down the town seafront promenade.

The beach

The most beautiful beaches of the island are outside the town and you can reach them by car or boat. One of the most popular beaches among younger people is situated on the rocks by the promenade next to hotel Croatia. The beach by the popular Hula – Hula club is a place with non-stop parties and world famous DJs in the summer season. Many young party people and jet set come here. Here you can enjoy cocktails, great food and excellent wines and champagne.

Further down the promenade towards the center there is Amfora bay with a beach and water polo field. The beach is a concrete plateau with a pebbled part next to it.

Opposite from this beach is Beach Bonj, known as the most expensive beach in Croatia. The basic rental package, including two desk chairs and a parasol will cost you some 600 KN. A British website listed this beach as one of Europe’s top 20 beaches and compared to other beaches from the list it’s not that expensive.

On the other side of Hvar port there is a smaller pebble beach. It’s popular with the guests of nearby suites, but other guests are also welcome. Pakleni Islands and Hvar’s surroundings have some of the most amazing beaches and they are easily accessible by boat from the town’s port.

Sightseeing and attractions

Hvarska pjaca, the main town square, is a popular gathering place. Numerous cafés and restaurants are located here and, of course, the prices here are pretty high. The square also features the impressive Hvar cathedral. Definitely have a look at it.

Hvar theater is located in the Arsenal and it is one of the oldest theatres in Europe, founded in 1612. You should also visit the beautiful Franciscan monastery, built in 1461. Here you can enjoy an amazing monastery museum treasure and an excellent collection of paintings of the old masters. Over 500 years old cypress tree can be found in the monastery yard.

One of Hvar’s most interesting products is agave lace that is made by the Benedictine abbey nuns. This craft is over 130 years old and it is passed from one generation to another.

Španjola Fortress is located above Hvar. This well preserved fortress was built in the 16th century. We recommend you visit this fortress and enjoy the amazing view of Hvar and Pakleni Islands.
